Experiment name: Iceland-Faroe Overflow (ACM8) Principal Investigator: P.Saunders PI's affiliation: Inst. Oceanog. Sci. (UK) Mooring Name: 504 (D) Mooring position: 62.718 deg N, 16.820 deg W Instrument depth: 1135 meters Seafloor depth: 1800 meters Times: starts 15 Jul 1990, ends 22 Aug 1991 Time increment: 60 minutes Instrument type: Aanderaa RCM5 parameter min mean max sd days speed (cm/sec) 2.30 16.30 56.81 9.18 403.0 dir (deg true) 0.01 209.88 359.65 89.67 403.0 u (cm/sec) -55.14 -5.84 40.05 13.82 403.0 v (cm/sec) -50.10 -1.76 44.43 11.03 403.0 temp (deg C) 3.43 4.71 6.16 0.39 403.0 pressure (db) 1138.78 1150.75 1327.08 18.29 403.0 This record is mostly good, but deteriorates near the end, from June 91 onward. The speed series is problemmatical from the end of June 91 through the middle of July, and then recovers. Temperature is poor after 2330 18 Jun 91. Pressure is poor after 1030 14 Jun 91. CMDAC has prepared an alternate file in which the doubtful portions of the time series have been removed. u and v have been excised in lines 8584 through 8726 (1830 7 Jul 91 - 1630 13 Jul 91). Two portions of the temperature series have been removed: lines 8134 through 8805 (0030 19 Jun 91 - 2330 16 Jul 91) and a short portion extending from line 9585 (1130 18 Aug 91) through the end of the file. Pressure has been discarded from line 8024 (1030 14 Jun 91) through the end of the file. Both versions of the file are available on this disk.
