This instrument's speed sensor failed after about 4 months. The last
good speed is at line 3017 (1300 01 Feb 98). There are a few short
episodes of zero speed before that point that probably are indicative
of a failing sensor. Because we received the VENTS files in NODC's
unfortunate F015 format, which contains just the u and v current
components, we have no independent information about current direction.
Hence direction also ends at line 3017.
