The u and v components (and speed and direction) contain a gap in
lines 393 (0500 09 Jul 96) through 562 (0600 16 Jul 96). Possibly,
the gap was caused by a long interval of below-threshold speeds,
but it is more likely that the cause was an instrument failure, and
we have treated it as such here.
