From appearances in the file that we received it is clear that the original recording contained a speed wrap-around at this point, which had been badly repaired with interpolations. Since our goal is to avoid propagating bad data, we have simply removed the episode entirely. A second, much shorter gap with the same etiology occurs in lines 805 through 812 of the speed series (1800 23 Oct 92 through 0100 24 Oct 92). The speed sensor's threshold appears to have been unusually high, about 3.19 cm/sec. About 9.2% of all speeds were somewhere below the threshold and appear as zero in this record.
