There is some spikiness in the direction series of this record
that probably is due to instrument error. Most of the direction
spikes are isolated values near 269 degrees true and 290 degrees
true, indicating a tendency for the current meter's compass to
stick at these two points. CMDAC has prepared an alternate version
of the file in which many of these spikes, and a few others, have
been removed by linear interpolation.  Both the original file and
the alternate version are available on this disk.
