This record contains a month-long episode (lines 2495 - 3210;
1700 11 Jan 94 - 0000 12 Feb 94) during which speed is constant
at 2 cm/sec, the current meter's threshold. This may have been
caused by a sensor failure, or (less likely) current speeds at
or below the threshold. There are many other instances of shorter
duration in which speed also drops to threshold or near-threshold
values, which look very much like sensor failures (e.g., 26 Dec
93, 28 Dec 93, 14 - 16 May 94, 22 - 30 May 94). CMDAC believes
that these are, in fact, sensor failures and has prepared an
alternate version of the file in which most of these episodes
have been replaced by linear or predictive interpolation. The
month-long episode described above has been removed entirely.
A doubtful episode in mid-February 1994 remains unchanged. This
problem appears not to have affected direction, which is present
and appears good throughout.

Both the original and alternate versions of the file are available
here.
